Riot FAQ · 2026-08-14
If Hextech Ray kills while Imperial Decree’s delayed trigger is active, can Immortal Phoenix return from your trash?
Yes.
Explanation & source
Imperial Decree’s delayed trigger is generated by your spell and is attributed the kill, so all of Immortal Phoenix’s conditions are met.

What counts as killing a unit with a spell for Immortal Phoenix?
Your spell kills a unit during resolution, or deals damage that kills it in the cleanup right after. The unit must actually die.
Explanation & source
It does not count for an opponent’s spell, a unit dealing damage via Challenge, later deaths, or Might reduction making damage lethal.
