Riot FAQ · 2026-08-14
Where does a Flow spell go when Abandon counters it?
It is banished, rather than returned to hand.
Explanation & source
Flow applies when the finalized spell leaves the chain this way, including when Abandon counters it.

Can an opponent play Abandon on your spell while you control an empowered Mel, Newly Awakened?
Yes. On resolution they Predict, but nothing else happens.
Explanation & source
Your spell can’t be countered, so Abandon’s counter fails and there is no trash event for its return-to-hand replacement to replace. If the spell resolves later, it goes to the trash as normal.
