Prepare for your first Nexus Night

← Learn · First published September 11, 2026

Ask the organizer whether the session is a lesson, open play or a timed tournament. Confirm the format and check-in time before packing a deck.

Riot presents Nexus Nights as weekly store play where new players can learn and meet others. But a relaxed event can still have a tournament structure.

A suggested message to your organizer

Hi, I’m new to playing Riftbound at a store. I know the basics and have a deck. Is this session open play or a timed tournament? What format is it, and is my deck suitable? Do I need to register or submit a decklist in advance? What are the entry fee, check-in time and expected finish time? Is someone available to help a first-time attendee?

Pack for the event they describe

For sanctioned play, deck registration is required at high OPL and can be required by the head judge at low OPL. Sleeves must have opaque backs and be consistent within each deck when used; low-OPL events can require them. Confirm the requirements before arrival.

At the store and during rounds

  1. Check in: Ask how pairings, table numbers, result reporting and the round clock work.
  2. Introduce yourself: Tell your opponent this is your first store event. Announce card names and choices clearly.
  3. Call for help: Ask the organizer or judge about a disputed interaction.
  4. Report the result: If leaving early, tell the organizer so you can be withdrawn from later rounds.

Device use during matches is restricted. Ask the organizer what is allowed before using your phone during a game.
